When users need to do more than submit an enquiry, and instead work with data, documents, orders or process statuses, a client portal becomes necessary. Such a module is needed when part of the interaction has to happen under authorisation: with a history of actions, personal access and controlled roles. The portal can be a separate section of a website or part of a web application, a B2B portal or an internal platform.
A client portal covers user self-service and reduces the number of manual requests to managers or the support team. Through it you can show the status of enquiries, orders, payments, documents, balances or technical requests. In partner and B2B scenarios the portal is often used for access to individual terms, price lists, delivery notes, invoices and the history of the relationship.
The work includes designing the role logic, the authorisation scenarios, the structure of the sections and the rules of access to data. The user interfaces and the administrative side for the team managing the data, statuses or content are worked through separately. Security mechanics are implemented as well: access validation, protection of personal data, password recovery, logging of important actions and basic limits on critical operations.
A portal is usually integrated with CRM, ERP, BAS, payment services, email or SMS gateways, internal APIs and external platforms. Integrations are what let the user see current data without anyone duplicating information by hand. Implementation starts with an analysis of user roles, data sources and the scenarios the portal has to cover. From there come the structure of the module, the technical logic, prototypes of the key screens and the integration plan.
