Discovery & Business Analysis

Discovery and business analysis give you a complete picture of a future project before development starts. This stage defines the business requirements, key processes, user roles, integrations and the criteria by which the system will be judged a success.

The stage matters especially for projects with complex business logic, integrations, several user groups or a large number of internal processes. A company often already understands the problem it needs to solve, but needs a structured approach to shaping the requirements and assessing the future solution.

The discovery phase analyses current business processes, user roles, data sources, integrations and the points where departments interact. It separately defines functional requirements, usage scenarios, feature priorities and the constraints that implementation has to work within.

The result is usually a specification, a description of the solution architecture, an integration map, a budget estimate and an implementation roadmap. Where needed it can also include interface prototypes, a data schema or recommendations on the technology stack.

Proper business analysis lets the development team, the client and everyone else involved work from the same information, makes planning simpler, and gives the digital product a clear basis to be built on.
